NOTES & NEWS – SUNDAY 20TH July 2008

OUR MISSION STATEMENT
In our parish, God calls us:
• To worship God, personally and corporately.
• To make known the good news of Christ
• To serve our neighbours, locally and globally.
• To continue to grow as a loving, open Christian Community filled with the Holy Spirit.

COMMUNION BEFORE CONFIRMATION - It is now the policy of this parish to admit baptised children to communion. If your child wishes to receive communion, please see The Revd David Power, who is glad to explain the process of preparation and admission which is to be carried out before the child receives. Please note that baptised but unconfirmed adults are also welcome to receive, but if they wish to be regular communicants they will be encouraged to be confirmed. Please see our Parish Policy which is displayed on the notice board in both churches.

FOR YOUR CONTINUED PRAYERS - Pam Peryer, David Butcher, Edna Smith, Lynda Russell, Eleanor, Bishop Kenneth, Una Voke, Caroline Stowe, George Norton, Brian Constantine, Richard Bailey, Carla Page, Joshua Bish and Philip Storr Venter.

PRAYER CHAIN CONTACTS - Norah Coote 9266 3863 or June Parkyn 92690525.

PASTORAL TEAM VISIT – If you know of anyone who might need a visit from the pastoral care team for support or prayer please contact Heather Hostler 023 9266 7036, Eileen Thorpe 023 92815 912 or speak to David or Meg.

QUEST
I would like to thank the Quest group and Leaders of the youth at St Cuthbert’s for their card, vouchers and lovely flowers. It has been an absolute pleasure working with our young people in Quest for the last 6 years. We are very lucky to have such fantastic young people as part of our church and thanks must go to Les, Darren and Mary who have had to endure my sense of humour during Quest for so long.!!! Many thanks to you all, Chris Caws.

IMPORTANT NOTICE
The P.C.C. decided at their last meeting to move the Wednesday morning 9am service from St Joseph's church to the St Cuthbert's Centre. So, as from Wednesday 3rd September, this service will take place in The Poppy Room at the usual time of 9am. All are welcome – Beulah.

VICARAGE GARDEN PARTY – SATURDAY 16TH AUGUST.
The opening times have now been set for 2.00-4.30pm. It has been suggested that we serve cucumber sandwiches and scones with jam and cream. Who would be willing to organise and serve the refreshments?

So far the stalls that seem to be emerging are:-
Books, Cakes, Raffle, Lace Making, Home Produce, Garden stall with cut flowers, pot plants, silk flowers etc.
A Bottle Raffle with a Difference. Anne Gard will head this up and she needs lots of bottles with contents - not empty ones!
Posh Bric-a-Brac. Please, I do mean quality ornaments and crystal that you may have tired of or possibly some china that you no longer have a use for. Who would like to run this stall?

We now have two different sets of musicians and a Magician booked to perform during the afternoon, so things are taking shape nicely. However not many people have offered to help and as time is getting on I do need names. Two lists will be around from Sunday 20th at St Cuthbert's. Could somebody at 8 o’clock please make sure that the congregation is made aware of them. Could St Aidan's congregation please telephone me with their offers of help - that way we won't double up on things.

We also need a list of people to donate scones please. We will need quite a few for the Cream Teas.

Posters will be available as soon as everything is finalised.
Let's try and make this afternoon a really successful publicity event of St Cuthbert's reaching out to the community.
Thank you all in hopeful anticipation - Beulah 9278 5486 beulah@copnor.wanadoo.co.uk

CREAM TEA
You are invited to a Cream Tea at Myra's house, 21, Daventry Lane in Anchorage Park on August 9th between 2-4pm. The proceeds from this will go to St Cuthbert's re-ordering fund. Come and sit in the garden on a summer afternoon and chat with your friends. A warm welcomes awaits you from St Aidan's Church.

FROGS
This is our Sunday morning group where children (aged 4 - 11) can take part in lively Christian themed activities. We meet on the fourth Sunday of each month and our next meeting will be on 27th July. FROGS leave the service shortly after the start to meet in the Poppy Room and return at the end of the Service. A typical meeting might include: action songs, bible teaching, prayer, drama, puppets, games or videos.
For more information please contact Georgina Mulhall.
