Phase II Completes!

The redevelopment of the former St. Cuthbert’s Church hall site by Portsmouth Housing Association completed in November 2006, with the official opening LINDISFARNE COURT a brand new block of 9 apartments for people aged over 55 years.

We have recently been given the “Go-Ahead” from Portsmouth City Council with funding up to £100,000 towards the inclusion of Children’s Centre, which is a Government initiative, as part of Phase III of reordering. We understand that there are to be seven Children’s Centres in the Portsmouth area by 2008 and the St. Cuthbert’s Centre is an ideal location and is very much within the ‘vision’ of the reordering project.

Meanwhile we are continuing to raise funds for Phase III of the reordering, which will include the building of the community facilities and the new place of Worship, within the church building.

£3.3 million has already been secured for the project including a pledge of £300,000 from ‘THE BIG LOTTERY’, a grant of £60,000 from THE BRITISH LEGION, a grant £50,000 from the GARFIELD WESTON FOUNDATION, a grant of £50,000 from the ONYX LANDFILL TRUST, a grant or £3,000 from THE RANK FOUNDATION, a grant of £20,000 for the Community facility + £5,000 for the place of Worship from the BEATRICE LANG TRUST, a grant of £8,000 from the TRUSTHOUSE CHARITABLE FOUNDATION towards the Community Café kitchen the and pledge of £3,000 from BERNARD SUNLEY CHARITABLE FOUNDATION.

We were notified in the beginning of December that we had been successful in our application for a grant from the BRADBURY FOUNDATION of “£195,000” leaving approximately £50,000 to raise to complete phase 3 of the project.
